Morse High School lived up to its #2 conference ranking and defeated an improving Patriots nine by the score of 5-1. GNG sophomore pitcher Wyatt Kenney pitched another complete game, struck out five and did not yield a walk. Junior Aidan Sweeney continues to wield a hot bat, garnering two hits bringing his average to a team second-best .353. Sophomore Conner Saunders broke out of uncharacteristic hitting slump today with two hits drove in the team’s lone run. Morse opened the scoring in the second by scoring two runs, added two more in the third, and a single run in the fourth. The Patriots scored their only run in the second as Kenney lead off with a single, advanced on Sweeney’s single, and scored on Saunder’s single. But the Shipbuilders used steady pitching and a stingy defense to strand a total of eleven Patriots base runners. The loss puts the Patriots at 2-5 with a game away from the midpoint of the season. The team’s next game will be Tuesday as they travel to another tough conference opponent, Greely High School.
