Summer 2018 Technology Infrastructure Project

Over the last several years the use of technology at the elementary school level has greatly increased. All 3rd and 4th grade students now have 1:1 iPads for use during the school day. At the K-2 level all classrooms now have a mix of iPads and MacBooks for use in learning centers. Online resources and testing have become a greater part of the learning experience. These changes in access and digital resources help create a more flexible and interactive learning environment.

It became clear to the staff and school board of MSAD 15 that the infrastructure at the elementary level needed to be updated to meet this increased demand. The school board designated funds in the 2018-19 budget to make the necessary improvements.

This summer the wireless network was completely replaced at Russell, Memorial, and Dunn elementary schools. Local contractor L.M. Electrical, Inc. was hired to install all new cabling for the wireless networks. In addition, all new equipment was purchased and installed. The combination of both upgraded cabling and equipment will result in a much faster network that will allow students and staff to access online educational resources and enhance opportunities for teaching and learning.

With these improvements in place the technology infrastructure at the district’s three elementary schools is now capable of supporting our learning objectives for the next 7 years. Students and staff will see the benefits of this work immediately as they navigate an ever changing educational environment.
