Important Notice for Fall Sports 6-25-20

MSAD 15 closed its facilities at the end of March and the facilities continue to remain closed for all academic, athletic, and other co-curricular programming.  The one exception to this has been the modified graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020.  As athletic director, I have been meeting weekly with coaches, administrators, and other Maine athletic directors. Although the Maine Principals’ Association is indicating certain types of training may begin July 6, 2020 for athletics, MSAD 15 is not prepared to open school facilities to students and coaches by that date.  I believe this to be true of the vast majority of school districts in Cumberland County.

MSAD 15 has created a task force of coaches, the athletic trainer, facilities manager, school board members, and administrators to consider recommendations suggested by the interscholastic division of the Maine Principals’ Association for the opening of the fall sports season.  As in every other aspect of decision-making related to the pandemic and school programming, MSAD 15 will continue to follow the guidelines and directives issued by the Maine Department of Education and Gubernatorial executive orders, both of which are heavily influenced by the Center for Disease Control.  At the July 15 school board meeting, the administrative team will present a first-draft plan to the school board regarding the reopening of MSAD 15 schools. The draft plan will address the regular academic program, fall athletic season, and other co-curricular activities.

In the meantime, virtual workouts are allowed and our coaches have been developing workout plans to implement with student athletes.   We are all anxious and eager for our student athletes to get back on the playing field; however, we need to be cautious and deliberate regarding how and when we resume athletic programming.  We will keep the school community updated through School Messenger and postings on the district website.  If you have any thoughts or suggestions regarding programming for the fall athletic season, please feel free to contact me.
