Once again, in a matter of a week, Fryeburg Academy used a bit of seventh inning heroics to nip the never-say-die Patriots 5-4 at Fryeburg. Led by a gutsy pitching performance by freshman Aiden Gonzalez, the Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the fourth on a Jake Dyer two run double to center field. The Raiders tied it up in the bottom half of the inning, but the Patriots answered back with two more as Cooper Winslow and Wyatt Kenney both scored on a Nick McCann rocket shot that was misplayed by the Raider shortstop. The 11-2 Raiders chipped away at the two-run deficit, scoring single runs in the fifth and the sixth to tie the game and set the stage for their exciting finish. With two outs and the winning run at second, the next batter was intentionally walked, putting a force out at any base. But it was to no avail, as the next batter lined a shot to right center scoring the runner on second with the winning run and giving the Patriots a heartbreaking loss after playing one of their finest games of the season. The
team is back on the road tomorrow as they travel to York for a 4:30 encounter.
