The Patriots opened their 2019 season with a thrilling 3-2 win over rival Poland Regional in a game that seesawed back and forth for ten innings. With one out in the bottom of the tenth and the score locked at two runs apiece, senior co-captain Nick McCann ripped a standup double to left, and after fellow senior co-captain Cam Andrews was intentionally walked, McCann eventually scored the game winning run on a passed ball. Andrews came in relief of starter Logan True who developed early arm soreness in the second inning and stymied the Knights’ offense for nine full innings. Andrews was supported by a stout and stingy Patriots
defense that stifled many Poland scoring opportunities that could have put the game out of reach. The highlight play happened in the top of the seventh when right fielder Mason Lessard caught a fly ball then gunned down the potential go-ahead run at the plate to end the inning. Sophomore Wyatt Kenney, in his first varsity start, played errorless ball at second base and also contributed a hit in the game. The Patriots will now travel to Greely High School on Friday for another key matchup.
