Sophomore Wyatt Kenney, in his first varsity mound appearance, threw a masterful complete game as the Patriots rebounded from yesterday’s 13-1 loss to defeat Wayneflete School 3-2 in Portland. The young right hander showed a lot of poise as he pitched out of several jams for his first career win. In the second inning he stranded a runner on third while striking out batters for the second and third outs. He also left runners on second and third in the fourth, slamming the door on another Flyers’ scoring threat. Waynflete scored both their runs in the sixth on three consecutive hits, but the Patriots defense came up strong with a couple fine defensive plays to preserve their one-run lead. The Patriots scored single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings, but left the bases loaded in the first and fifth innings that could have resulted in further damage. The Patriots, now 2-1, will host Traip Academy on Patriots Place Field tomorrow at 4:00.
