Visiting Artist
On Friday, April 26th, the Margaritas Visiting Artist Program came to Memorial School to present a live weaving demonstration to all second graders in MSAD 15. The artist, Porfirio Gutierrez, was born and raised in Oaxaca, Mexico. Mr. Gutierrez was raised in a family of Zapotec Weavers where he learned his craft.
All second graders at Memorial School and Russell School watched and listened to the live presentation that was both informative and inspirational. Students got a chance to see the complex artistry of weaving take place in front of them and ask questions. It was an authentic cultural experience for all. A big THANK YOU goes out to all who helped make this event happen including the Patriot Parents who provided funding for this opportunity!
