The Patriots won there third game in a row with they defeated the visiting Old Orchard Beach Gulls 4-1. The Patriots were on the attack from the start to finish in this game. They out shot the visitors 29-3.
The Patriots had a little bit of a slow start to this game. They were quickly in their offensive end of the field, but were struggling to find their rhythm and get shots at the goal. They began to find their groove when Ashleen intercepted the ball at midfield, volleyed a pass to Jordan Grant, who then headed the ball towards the corner for Ashleen to run onto. This enabled her to get in behind the defense. She dribbled into the eighteen yard box and send a centering pass to Mady West on the other side of the eighteen. She settled the pass with her first touch and powered the shot past the keeper with her second touch, giving the Patriots the 1-0 lead just shy of nine minute into the game.
About seven minutes later the Patriots doubled their lead when Eliza Hotham put away the penalty kick. Ashleen was the one who earned the kick for the Patriots when she was taken out trying to shot the ball from the middle of the box. The Gulls would get a goal back late in the first half when an over the top ball was played in behind the Patriots’ defense line. Shani Plante was able to run onto the ball and get a shot off before Ivy was able stop the breakaway.
The Patriots added another goal as time expired in the first half. Amelia Cobb ran down the left sideline with the ball, sent a high cross into the box over the keeper’s head that found her cousin Nicole Cobb at the front of the goal. With no one in the way she just guided the ball into the goal. They scored the final goal of the game in the last minute of the game for the second straight game. This time Madi Brown sent a cross in that went right to Sarah Fecteau. She settle the ball, turned and shot it right between the keeper’s legs.
The Patriots improve to 5-3 and the Gulls drop to 0-7-2. The Patriots will look to continue this recent form when they travel to Yarmouth to take on the Clippers Thursday October 3rd. JV will play first with kickoff at 4:15 and Varsity will follow at 6:00pm.
