The Cape Elizabeth Capers combined effective pitching, timely hitting, and solid defense to defeat a spirited Patriot effort by the score of 5-1. Senior Cooper Winslow got the Patriots on the board in t he first inning with a lead off single and later score on a fielders choice. Cape went ahead by a run in the second and took a 2-1 lead into the fourth. The Patriots had their best scoring chance of the game, loading the bases with no outs, but a diving catch by the third baseman on an Aiden Gonzales line drive double off Nick McCann who was the runner on third for a critical double play. Cape got insurance runs in the fifth to seal the victory. Once again, freshman lefty Aiden Gonzales pitched effectively for the entire six frames.
Junior Jake Dyer continues to wield a hot bat as he collected a single and double as well as making the play of the game in center field on a diving inning-ending catch in the fifth. The Patriots are back on the road again tomorrow for a 4:30 encounter against Wells High School.
