The Patriots scored two to beat the Lake Region Lakers for the second time this season. The Patriots were in control of this game from start to finish, but did need a couple key saves to keep the Lakers off the board.
The game opened with the Patriots on attack, earning a couple opportunities in the first few minutes. Unfortunately nothing came from the early opportunities. The first goal didn’t happen until the twenty minute mark. The Patriots earned a corner kick. West Duffy sent in a long kick on the narrow field that found Ashleen Perkins on the far side of the penalty box. She settled the ball and sent it back in to Emma West who was wide open and sent in a shot that the keeper stopped, but on the wrong side of the goal line.
The second half kicked off with the Lakers having their best chance of the game. They got in behind the Patriots and had a one on one situation with Ivy Abrams in net. Ivy came out and easily snuffed out the opportunity, preserving the Patriots’ one goal lead. As the half continued the Patriots created several opportunities to score, but were just missing by the slightest of margins.
It wasn’t until there was less than fourteen minutes left in the game when the Patriots would double their lead. Several great passes led to Ashleen getting the ball just outside the eighteen and passing the ball in behind the defense for Ellie Schlicting to score her fourth goal of the season.
The Patriots improved to 4-4 with the win. They will look to earn another win Wednesday October 28th when they host the St. Dominic Saints. This will be varsity only kicking off at 6pm.
