The Patriots lost 2-1 to the visiting Yarmouth Clippers. This was a game dominated by the Patriots from start to finish. This game could have easily gone the other way and probably should have with the performances by both teams on the field.
On an evening to honor the seniors on the team, the Patriots played one of their best games on the season. From the very beginning of the game they were passing the ball around with ease and forcing the Clippers to retreat into their defensive end.
The Patriots looked like they were going to score early. They had long throws and corner kicks frequently in the first half . Despite having the better opportunities, the Clippers would score the first goal of the game when they were awarded a penalty kick on a questionable call. Ehryn Groothoff slotted the ball to the ride side of the goal with just over ten minutes left in the half.
The Patriots would retaliate before the half ended. On their fifth corner of the half, West Duffy sent a great high ball into the box, it bounced around off offensive and defensive players until it rolled outside of the penalty box. The ball came rolling right towards Lydia Espling who sent a high powerful shot back at the goal that sailed passed the jumping keeper.
The Clippers would score less than two minutes into the second half. They sent a ball into the box on a corner that appeared to be knocked out of the air the hand of Clippers’ player then bounced around the box until it landed at the feet of Parker Harnett, who one touched the shot into the net.
The Patriots looked like they would equalize, but unfortunately weren’t able to find the back of the net. Their best chance came when West Duffy took a free kick from about forty yards out. It was a long high shot that hit the upper right corner of the goal and bounced back into play.
The Patriots are 7-6 after loss and the Clippers are 10-2-1 with the win. The Patriots will close out the regular season on Saturday October 19th when they travel to Greely to take on the Rangers. JV will play first at 1:15pm and Varsity will follow at 3:00pm.
