Re: Important Information Regarding Recent Cybersecurity Incident

This letter is to update you about the recent cybersecurity incident involving PowerSchool, the platform we utilize for managing student and staff information. We are still waiting for PowerSchool to conduct our district assessment which will communicate the specific impact on MSAD 15 student and staff information. In the meantime, PowerSchool has provided a few additional details we want to share with you:

PowerSchool will maintain a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) site.  The address for this site can be found here:  https://www.powerschool.com/security/sis-incident-2/

  • Identity Protection and Credit Monitoring Services: PowerSchool has engaged Experian, a trusted credit reporting agency, to offer complimentary identity protection and credit monitoring services to all students and educators whose information from PowerSchool was involved. This offer is being provided regardless of whether an individual’s Social Security number was exfiltrated.
    • Identity Protection: PowerSchool will be offering two years of complimentary identity protection services for all students and educators whose information was involved.
    • Credit Monitoring: PowerSchool will also be offering two years of complimentary credit monitoring services for all adult students and educators whose information was involved.
  • PowerSchool will coordinate with Experian to contact students (Parents/Guardians if the student is under 18) and educators whose information was involved. They will provide you with access to a call center and offer the above services, as applicable.

MSAD 15 has not yet received confirmation of affected individuals at this time. The notice from PowerSchool will serve as an indication for those individuals that were affected by the data breach.  MSAD 15 does not collect Social Security numbers of students and parents/guardians, as indicated by Maine Department of Education Regulations. However, we still encourage all staff, students, and families to use data breach precautions in the meantime.
