Next week will be Dunn School’s annual Kindness Week from Monday 2/10 – Friday 2/14! This year, as our service learning component to our kindness week for 3rd and 4th graders, we are excited to partner with World of Change (WOC) www.worldofchange.world at Dunn for Kindness Week! This rapidly growing nonprofit movement uses spare change (yes, pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters) as a tool to teach kids about the power of their change and their collective capacity to make a world of change. Did you know an estimated $10B in change is sitting idle here in the USA? Of this, approximately $62M is discarded annually. Why not put all that change to good use? Students will be learning more about this initiative at an assembly being held at Dunn on Friday, February 7th.

Here are the details: From February 10 to February 14, 3rd and 4th grade students can bring change from home to school.  Each 3rd and 4th grade student will be given a WOC coin pouch to hold coins gathered at home and wherever they can find change.  100% of their change will help these two charities chosen by the students: Camp Sunshine, which provides year round support and positive experiences for families with kids who have cancer or other life-threatening illnesses, and Greater Androscoggin Humane Society, which provides shelter, basic needs and adoption services to abandoned, stray and injured pets. Next week, students can put all their change into World of Change kiosks set-up in Dunn’s main lobby to assist one of the charities or some for each charity. We encourage you to discuss this important program with your children and use it as an opportunity to illustrate how something as simple as change and the little things we do can make a significant impact—especially when combined with the efforts of others.  Please know this is an optional program, and there is no pressure to participate. However, the benefits of participation are considerable. We are excited to implement our core values through World of Change!

Additionally, each classroom teacher next week will be implementing various videos, read alouds and activities all about kindness into their daily routine. 3rd and 4th graders will be able to participate in kindness spirit week dress-up days and a kindness lunch on Thursday 2/13  to celebrate! Please see the flier attached to today’s Dunn Deal for spirit week details! Pre-K will also be having their own kindness spirit week dress-up days – see flier sent home by pre-k teachers for details.

There is a Family Kindness Challenge Checklist attached today’s Dunn Deal – feel free to implement it in your own home!
