The Patriots lost a highly physical game 3-0 to the visiting Cape Elizabeth Capers. This game was a tough battle from beginning to end between the physical play and the hot sun beating down.
This game was a back and forth affair. Both teams looked to score early, with each team getting into the offense ends of the field. The Patriots had several corner kicks and long throws early, but couldn’t connect for a shot on goal, while the Capers had several shots that were saved or just missed the goal.
The Capers finally broke through the Patriots’ defense just under ten minutes into the game. A ball was shot into the box, bounced off a defender and landed at the feet of Karli Chapin. She quickly shot the ball into the net from the edge of the six yard box. The Capers added their second goal of the game with 14:13 left in the first half. Emily Supple dribbled through the middle of the field, then sent a nice pass in between two defenders for Maggie Cochran. She took one touch to set the shot up with her right foot and sent a hard, low shot into the goal.
The Patriots struggled to find their rhythm in this game. Their passing was slightly off from where it usually is, with passes that were a little too far ahead or a little behind their target. The Capers capitalized on this and pinned the Patriots in their defensive end at times.
That Patriots are now 2-3 with this loss, while the Capers improve to 3-1 on the season. The Patriots will look to bounce back when they host the Fryeburg Raiders on September 26th. Currently JV is scheduled to kickoff at 4:15pm with Varsity following at 6:00pm.
