A virtual visit to the Maine communities of Gray and New Gloucester.
The towns of Gray and New Gloucester are located on the northern boundary of Cumberland County between the two largest metropolitan centers in Maine: Portland to the south and Lewiston/Auburn to the north. Gray, with a population of approximately 8,000, is home to the Maine Wildlife Park, Libby Hill Forest Trails, and the Spring Meadows Golf Course. Conveniently located at the crossroads of state Routes 4, 26, 100, 115, 202 and the Maine Turnpike exit 63, Gray has many local attractions in its 42 square miles. New Gloucester, with a population of approximately 5,700, is home to the Shaker Village and Pineland Farms, Inc., a 5,000-acre working farm, diverse business campus and educational and recreational venue that welcomes visitors to enjoy its beautiful rural landscape. The town’s 48.6 square miles include a beautiful village area and many acres of farmland and forest.
Both Gray and New Gloucester gained population from 2010 to 2014. Gray is one of the youngest communities in Cumberland County, with an average age of 37.4 years, significantly below the state average of 44. New Gloucester’s average age is 42.
